Description
An epidemic is raging in the valley. Gertrud, the beautiful young midwife, has just suffered two blows of fate. Her husband Othmar has been killed in the war and her only child Hanna has recently succumbed to a fever at the tender age of three months. One morning, as she is on her way home from a birth, she finds a newborn baby girl in the woods.
Gertrud does not hesitate for a moment and takes the baby home with her. When she returns to the site the next day, plagued by conscience, in the hope of finding a clue to the child's origins, she finds an amulet with strange markings. She decides to raise the child as her own. Gertrud has no idea that the child is the key to a long-forgotten realm.
