- Schuldt_Klaus-Ulrich[1]Born in Schwerin / Mecklenburg in 1949, I grew up in modest circumstances. After school, an apprenticeship and time in the army, I wanted to join the merchant navy, a dream of many young men in the GDR. Love thwarted my plans and made me settle down in what is now a very beautiful town in the Altmark region of Saxony-Anhalt. I have been married for over 52 years, still with the same love from back then. We have a daughter who is also married and we are the happiest grandparents of a grandson in the whole world. I do sports regularly, for example I like to go rollerblading, cycling and jogging. Our beautiful large garden plays a crucial role in our lives and is an integral part of our daily routine. I've just retired, but I'm still very busy. I've been a member of Kreuzbund e.V. for around 20 years. We are a self-help and support organization for addicts and their families. I am the 1st chairman of the Kreuzbund diocesan association in Magdeburg-Stendal and run self-help groups for alcohol addicts. In order to achieve the above, I fundamentally changed my life about 20 years ago. Two events made me realize that I could no longer go on like this. One of the two events in particular made me condemn alcohol. I swore to myself that I would not give alcohol another chance. With the help of my wife, my daughter, the Caritas Stendal addiction counseling center, the Kreuzbund e.V. self-help and support group for addicts, two books and my own will, I changed my life from one day to the next.
