\nPhilosophers and scientists were already dealing with this question over 2500 years ago. However, attempts are still being made today to find a clear answer to this question using models and methods.
\nEverything has its origins in the fact that, 2500 years ago, Democritus gave the smallest, indivisible piece of matter the name \"atom\".
\nThis hypothesis was accepted until Dalton caused a stir in the 19th century (in 1808) with his new atomic hypothesis. From this time onwards, many scientists such as the Thomson brothers, Rutherford and finally Bohr and Sommerfeld in 1919 presented the atomic model that is most commonly used today - with a nucleus of protons and neutrons and a shell of electrons.
\nThis model is still used today, although many phenomena such as gravity, black holes (mass) etc. cannot be explained using this model.
\nWhether atoms are actually made up of neutrons, protons and electrons has not yet been proven.
